Baritone RIHARDS MILLERS has been a soloist at the Latvian National Opera since 2014. His repertoire includes roles such as Spalanzani in Jacques Offenbach’s Les contes d’Hoffmann, Belcore in Gaetano Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, Morales in Georges Bizet’s Carmen, Poisson in Francesco Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur, Cascada in Franz Lehár’s Die Lustige Witwe, Dandini in Gioachino Rossini’s La Cenerentola, Masetto in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Count Almaviva in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Falke in Johann Strauss’s Die Fledermaus, Gypsy in Jānis Lūsēns’ The Birds’ Opera, Valdis in Arturs Maskats’ Valentina, Pantalone in Sergei Prokofiev’s The Love for Three Oranges, Marco in Giacomo Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, and the Builder in Ēriks Ešenvalds’ opera The Immured, among others.
In addition to his opera performances, he actively participates in symphonic vocal music performances and chamber music concerts.
In 2014, he was awarded the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music and Swedbank Prize for creative achievements in 2013. In 2015, he won 3rd place and a special prize for the best interpretation of Franz Schubert’s Ave Maria at the Klaudia Taev International Competition for Young Opera Singers in Estonia. In 2016, he received the Pauls Sakss Recognition Award. In 2022, for the concert Winter Journey alongside Ērika Millere, he was nominated for the Grand Music Award in the category “For Outstanding Interpretation.”
Rihards Millers earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the Latvian Academy of Music (under Professor Anita Garanča and Lecturer Krišjānis Norvelis). From 2011 to 2012, as part of the Erasmus student exchange program, he studied in Rome with Professor Anna Maria Ferrante. He has further refined his vocal skills with Liene Kinča, Axel Everaert, Joy Mammen, Natālija Štucmane, Līve Jansone, and Dmitry Vdovin. In 2013, he was a soloist of the Latvian National Opera Academy, supported by the Ināra and Boriss Teterev Foundation and a recipient of its scholarship.
