Annija Kopštāle graduated from the Riga Choreography School in 2011. In 2010, she studied at the Anaheim Ballet School (USA). She has been with the Latvian National Ballet since 2011 and is currently a Principal Dancer.
Annija Kopštāle is a laureate of several international competitions. She won the Silver Medal at the Korea International Ballet Competition (2014); a Diploma at the Yuri Grigorovich International Ballet Competition Young Ballet of the World (Sochi, 2014); 2nd Prize at the International Baltic Ballet Competition (Riga, 2013); a Diploma, the National Centre of Performing Arts Special Prize, and the Jury’s Special Award at the Second Beijing International Ballet and Choreography Competition (China, 2013); and a First-Degree Diploma at the Crystal Shoe competition (Ukraine, 2009). In 2016, she received Gold and Bronze Medals at the 5th South African International Ballet Competition (Cape Town) in the senior category, as well as a Bronze Medal at the 5th International Istanbul Ballet Competition in the senior group.
Her repertoire includes Odette/Odile in Swan Lake, Kitri in Don Quixote, Diane in La Esmeralda, Lise in La Fille mal gardée, Franziska in At the Blue Danube, Lucy in Dracula, and Solveig in Peer Gynt, among others.
