Soloists of the Latvian National Opera – sopranos Inna Kločko and Annija Kristiāna Ādamsone, tenor Mārtiņš Šmaukstelis, bass-baritone Rihards Mačanovskis – together with pianist Ilze Ozoliņa once again invite audiences to enjoy Latvian vocal chamber music, exploring the musical language of different eras, its rich colours and varied moods.

The concert programme gives special prominence to two Latvian composers marking significant anniversaries. To celebrate the 120th anniversary of the birth of conductor and composer Leonīds Vīgners, a selection of his songs will be performed by tenor Mārtiņš Šmaukstelis. The centenary of Oļģerts Grāvītis is marked with the composer’s best-known vocal cycle, Mēness meitiņa (Moon Maiden, 1954), set to poetry by Rainis and performed by soprano Inna Kločko. The symbolic world of Rainis blends naturally with Grāvītis’s refined musical language, as brightness and dreamlike delicacy alternate with deeper, more contemplative moods. The image of the moon becomes a link between external reality and the inner world of the individual, lending the cycle a particular sense of mystery and emotional depth.

Soprano Annija Kristiāna Ādamsone will perform Jānis Mediņš’s cycle Pasakas par mīlu (Tales of Love, 1942), set to poetry by Elza Ķezbere, highlighting both the beauty of the singer’s vocal timbre and the lyrical character of the cycle. The poetic imagery of Ķezbere’s verse intertwines with the composer’s subtle lyricism, revealing love in a range of moods, from luminous joy and tenderness to contemplation and deeper reflection.

The programme also includes a new work, composer Anna Veismane’s vocal cycle for baritone and piano Pasaciņas uz tauriņa spārniem (Little Tales on Butterfly Wings, 2026). It brings together the poetic worlds of two Latvian poets: the ballad-like, musically rhythmic flow of Vilis Plūdons’s verse and the gently contemplative, philosophical metaphors of Fricis Bārda. Each song is a delicate vision, a little tale, performed by bass-baritone Rihards Mačanovskis.
