Agris Daņiļēvičs

Choreographer

Choreographer, teacher and director AGRIS DAŅIĻEVIČS graduated from the Choreography Department of Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music under Professor Juris Kaprālis, and later completed his studies in theatre directing at the Latvian Academy of Culture. He has been the chief and artistic director of several regional, school youth and general song and dance festivals. He creates both Latvian stage dance and contemporary dance choreographies and dance productions. Founder and artistic director of the Dzirnas dance school.

At the Latvian National Opera Agris Daņiļevičs has choreographed and directed movement for several operas, including G. F. Handel's Alcina, G. Verdi's Aida, W. A. Mozart's Don Giovanni, R. Wagner's Die Walküre, Siegfried and Gotterdämmerung, and A. Maskats's Valentīna.

He has choreographed musical and dramatic performances, operas and operettas for the largest Latvian theatres, Sigulda Opera Music Festival, Kaunas and Klaipėda musical theatres, performances at city festivals. The choreographer's dance performances Mauglis with music by Mārtiņš Brauns, Spēlēju, dancoju with music by Iļģi and No zobena saule lēca with music by Auļi have received wide recognition.

Daņiļevičs received the Spēlmaņu nakts award in 1988/1999 and has also been awarded the Order of the Three Stars (2011).
