The Riga Ballet School (MIKC "Nacionālā mākslu vidusskola") continues to strengthen its contemporary dance tradition by presenting audiences with its annual festive concert.
Established in 2019, the Contemporary Dance Programme at the Riga Ballet School is currently the only professional secondary-level education programme in contemporary dance in Latvia. In 2021, the programme’s creators were nominated for the Latvian Dance Award in recognition of their contribution to dance art, and its graduates have gone on to pursue successful studies at leading dance institutions across Europe.
The concert programme features short contemporary dance works created by Latvian and European choreographers, including the school’s faculty members, guest artists, and the students themselves: Nicolas Sanchez (France), Artūrs Nīgalis, Poļina Filippova, Marīte Supe, Aigars Larionovs, Rūta Pūce, Agnese Bordjukova, Alise Putniņa, Anna Novikova, and Dmitrijs Gaitjukevičs.
Graduates of the Contemporary Dance Programme for the 2025/2026 academic year are Aleksandra Balašova, Hanna Bula, Luīze Einause, Estere Kokareviča, Marija Lubgāne, Sofija Pidgorodecka, Annija Liene Tontegoda, and Kerija Zāģere.
