Our Gypsy Ballads programme is built on two things: works by Roma composers and works by prolific academic composers that were inspired by the rich tradition of Roma music. Composers who have drawn on the magical folk art of this ancient and nomadic people include Franz Liszt, Johannes Brahms, Béla Bartók, Pablo de Sarasate, Fritz Kreisler and, of course, the performers themselves.
