The 2017/2018 season both in Latvia and at the LNO will be marked by the Centenary Celebration of independent Latvian State. The programme A Moment Before... invites audience to return to the eve of birth of our State through the vocal chamber music of the beginning of the 20th century. It will reflect the ideas and feelings that reigned in minds and hearts of Latvian composers and poets of the time. One of leading actors of the Latvian National Theatre Gundars Grasbergs will create the atmosphere of the time reading poetry and historical evidences. Having explored more than 40 pieces of vocal chamber music of Latvian classics from 1914 to 1918, the musicians have chosen for this programme about 20 compositions by Jānis Mediņš, Jāzeps Mediņš, Jānis Zālītis, Alfrēds Kalniņš, Jāzeps Vītols, and Pauls Šūberts.
