Matīss Circenis

Conductor

Matīss Circenis has been working as the assistant conductor of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet since 2022. He has worked on productions of Jenufa, Don Carlo, L’elisir d’amore and Faust, among others.

He has completed his studies at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music in choral conducting obtaining both bachelor’s and master’s degrees. His teacher was asoc. Professor Andris Veismanis. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in symphony orchestra conducting with asoc. Professor and chief conductor of the LNOB Mārtiņš Ozoliņš. He has furthered his academic education in conducting at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

Matīss Circenis is the artistic director and conductor of the Riga Pardaugava School of Music and Art Symphony Orchestra, as well as various choirs in Latvia. Choir singer of the professional Riga chamber choir Ave Sol. He has worked with all Latvian professional choirs as well as Vidzeme Chamber Orchestra, Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, Conservatorium van Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra, and the Latvian National Symphony orchestra whilst taking part in a masterclass with the legendary Finnish conducting teacher Jorma Panula.

As a conductor and singer Matīss Circenis has given concerts in most of Europe, as well as the USA, Japan and Israel.

Matīss Circenis has been a finalist and prize winner of various international conducting competitions, above all becoming the first Latvian conductor to win the prestigious Jazeps Vitols 6th international choral conductors’ competition in 2019.
