Gintaras Rinkevičius

GINTARAS RINKEVIČIUS is the founder of the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra (1988) and its artistic director, professor at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, and, since 2017, the Chief Conductor of the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra. This season Gintaras Rinkevičius is conducting productions of Così fan tutte, Il trovatore, Faust, and Samson et Dalila at the Vilnius City Opera.
Gintaras Rinkevičius is a graduate of the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory and the Moscow State Conservatory. He debuted as a conductor of opera in 1987 at the Hungarian National Theatre with Mozart’s The Abduction from the Seraglio. Notable are also productions at the Klaipėda State Musical Theatre, the Dutch National Opera & Ballet, the Göteborg Opera, the Scottish Opera, the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, and the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.
Gintaras Rinkevičius has worked with prominent collectives: the Berliner Symphoniker, Staatskapelle Weimar, the Frankfurt (Germany), Tampere (Finland) and Tivoli (Denmark) symphony orchestras, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Russian National Orchestra and others. Among the places Gintaras Rinkevičius has performed are the Kölner Philharmonie, London’s Royal Albert Hall, Moscow’s National Concert Hall, and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris. An important direction in his creative activity is the promotion of original Lithuanian music.
Gintaras Rinkevičius has received awards in Lithuania, Portugal, Norway and Russia. His artistic investment in Latvian culture was recognised with a Medal of Honour, 4rd Class of the Order of the Three Stars and with the Grand Music Award.
