Aigars Meri

Diriģents

Aigars Meri is the Principal Chorus Master at the Latvian National Opera. He studied choir and orchestra conducting at J. Vītols Latvian Academy of Music and in masterclasses with Lutz Köhler, Zsolt Nagy, Per Borin, as well as at the Järvi Summer Academy, Bayreuther Festspiele and at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. Meri has been the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Chamber Orchestra of Jelgava since 2005. He has conducted several operas at the LNO including Giuseppe Verdi’s Nabucco and Macbeth, Bruno Skulte’s The Heiress of Vilkači, Andris Dzenītis’ Dauka and Jānis Lūsēns’ The Puppet Opera. He received the annual Latvijas Gāze Award for outstanding achievement in the 2011/2012 season. LNO chorus was honoured with the LNO Foundation Annual Award for Opera in 2018.
