“We are truly proud to bring together such outstanding artists on the stage of the Latvian National Opera this spring. This event is special in the history of our opera house, and we are delighted to share this moment with our audience,” says Astra Irmeja-Šēfere, Member of the Board of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet.

“It is a special moment when world opera stars, whom we usually hear in Vienna, Milan or New York, meet again in Riga – in their home city. Marina Rebeka and Elīna Garanča are internationally acclaimed opera artists whose voices carry the name of our country across the world. The opportunity to hear them together with the world-famous baritone Ludovic Tézier on the stage of the Latvian National Opera is truly unique. Leonard Bernstein once said that music can express what cannot be said in words. Supporting the Aida performances is an investment both in high-quality culture and in our excellence – in the ability to reach the world’s most important stages from here,” says Ineta Done, Member of the Board of Signet Bank.

Marina Rebeka is one of the most distinguished sopranos of our time, praised by audiences and critics alike for her remarkable timbre, exceptional musicality, flawless technique and captivating stage presence. Giuseppe Verdi’s late masterpiece Aida tells the story of the tragic love between an Ethiopian princess and an Egyptian military commander, and for more than 150 years it has been revived on opera stages around the world in countless interpretations. Premiered in 1998, the Latvian National Opera production of Aida, with set and costume design by Ilmārs Blumbergs and directed by Māra Ķimele, has become one of the cornerstones of the Latvian National Opera repertoire.
