From August 18, audiences will be invited to attend the first ballet performances. The official beginning of the season will be marked on September 5 with the Season Opening Gala Concert, part of which will be dedicated to ballet and the other to opera. The soloists of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet will offer a preview of the upcoming season, as well as a look back at the brightest artistic moments from performances of previous seasons.

The first premiere of the season - opera Les contes d'Hoffmann (The Tales of Hoffmann) by Jacques Offenbach - will take place on September 26. This opera, based on the stories of E. T. A. Hoffmann, explores the ideas of love and true affection, allowing the composer to create a rich musical score. The fifth staging of Les contes d'Hoffmann at the Latvian National Opera is being staged under the musical leadership of the French maestro Frédéric Chaslin. The new production of director Aik Karapetian, set designer Miķeliss Fišers, costume designer Kristīne Pasternaka, and lighting designer Eugenijus Sabaliauskas, this opera will be an exciting and fun visual adventure, accompanied by gorgeous music.

On November 2, the premiere of the ballet Casanova is expected. Originally staged by the British ballet company, Northern Ballet, Casanova saw its opening night in March 2017. This work, in which we can explore the life of the famous 18th-century lover Giacomo Casanova in all its splendor and diversity, was created by choreographer Kenneth Tindall, composer Kerry Muzzey, set and costume designer Christopher Oram.
