The Latvian National Ballet opens the season with first performances
The Latvian National Ballet invites audiences to a programme of performances in August, offering something for everyone’s taste. The selection includes neoclassical gems, sparkling humor, touching love stories and adventures, as well as existential reflections conveyed through the language of contemporary ballet.
The first performance will take place on August 18th with the contemporary ballet Nijinski by renowned German choreographer Marco Goecke, featuring music by Frédéric Chopin and Claude Debussy. On August 22nd, for the only time this season, the ballet The Three Musketeers by choreographer Paul Chalmer and composer Jan Kučera will be performed. On August 24th, choreographer Krzysztof Pastor's ballet Dracula set to the music of Wojciech Kilar will be on stage. On August 29th, the ballet Antonija #Silmači by choreographer Aivars Leimanis and composer Juris Karlsons will offer a summer solstice atmosphere. On August 31st, the world-famous ballet La Fille mal gardée by the distinguished British choreographer Sir Frederick Ashton, with music by Louis Joseph Ferdinand Hérold, will be performed.
In August, it is also possible to join public Guided Tours around the Opera House in Latvian and English.
The new season will begin on September 5th with a festive Gala Concert representing both opera and ballet genres, offering a glimpse into the most beautiful productions of past seasons and a preview of the upcoming season’s plans.
The first new production of the season will be Jacques Offenbach's opera Les Contes d’Hoffmann, directed by musical director Frédéric Chaslin, director Aik Karapetian, set designer Miķelis Fišers and costume designer Kristīne Pasternaka, among others. The premiere will take place on September 26th.
