Outstanding soloists and conductors will visit the Latvian National Opera in the second half of the season

The second half of the season at the Latvian National Opera will be filled with brilliant musical events, featuring many artists whose talent and mastery captivate audiences worldwide. Soon, internationally renowned guest soloists, Latvian opera stars, and conductors will delight audiences and provide a true feast of art.

In the coming months, audiences can look forward to reunions with several outstanding tenors who have built successful international careers. On February 7, in Giuseppe Verdi’s opera La Traviata, the role of Alfredo Germont will be performed by the internationally acclaimed Ukrainian tenor Valentyn Dytiuk, familiar to Latvian audiences as the title character in the opera Faust. On February 28, in the opera Tosca, the role of Cavaradossi will be sung by the brilliant Latvian tenor Aleksandrs Antoņenko. On March 28, the role of Radamès in Verdi's Aida will be interpreted by the well-known Georgian tenor Irakli Kakhidze, while on April 26, Latvian audiences will meet the world-famous Ukrainian tenor Dmytro Popov in the role of Cavaradossi. On May 2, the role of Alfredo in La Traviata will be performed by the distinguished Czech tenor Pavel Černoch, who also interpreted this role in the 2007 premiere of the production.

In Georges Bizet’s opera Carmen on February 5, the title role will be sung for the first time in Latvia by Czech mezzo-soprano Ester Pavlů, while the role of Micaëla will be performed by the well-known French soprano Perrine Madoeuf. She will also be featured as Marguerite in Charles Gounod’s opera Faust on March 12.

In the new production of Richard Strauss’s opera Salome, which premieres on February 21, two notable Latvian opera singers will perform this season: Frankfurt Opera soloist Zanda Švēde will interpret the role of Herodias, and the world-famous bass-baritone Egils Siliņš will sing the role of Jochanaan. The role of Herod will be performed by Belgian tenor Thomas Blondelle, who has portrayed this role in numerous European opera houses.

This spring, audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy performances by two internationally acclaimed Latvian opera singers in Giacomo Puccini’s opera Turandot. On March 7, Inga Kalna will sing the role of Liu, and on April 12, Liene Kinča will perform the title role.

Several productions in the spring will be conducted by Latvian conductors with successful international careers. Under the musical direction of Jānis Liepiņš, performances of La Traviata (March 26), Carmen (April 24), Tosca (April 26), and Faust (May 7) will take place. Aivis Greters will conduct performances of Tosca (February 28) and Don Giovanni (May 29).

The season’s final new production, George Frideric Handel’s opera Flavio, re de' longobardi, will feature two outstanding countertenors. The world-renowned Croatian singer Max Emanuel Cenčić, who will perform the role of Guido, is also the director of this production. Latvian audiences will have the opportunity to get to know the rising French countertenor star Rémy Brès-Feuillet, who will sing the title role of Flavio.

Meetings with exceptional guests are also expected during the Riga Opera Festival performances and concerts. The festival will prominently feature selections from Giuseppe Verdi’s operas from the Latvian National Opera’s golden repertoire, offering audiences a chance to enjoy these extraordinary voices. In the performance of La Traviata on June 15, rising French opera star Vannina Santoni will debut in the role of Violetta, alongside familiar artists Pavel Černoch as Alfredo and Romanian baritone Bogdan Baciu as Giorgio Germont. In Aida on June 18, Irakli Kakhidze will interpret the role of Radamès, while in Nabucco on June 19, the role of Abigail will be performed by the world-famous Ukrainian soprano Liudmyla Monastyrska.

The season will conclude on June 20 with the Riga Opera Festival Gala concert under the musical direction of Mārtiņš Ozoliņš. This concert will feature such brilliant singers as Lithuanian opera star Vida Miknevičiūtė, Zanda Švēde, Liudmyla Monastyrska, Aleksandrs Antoņenko, and Irakli Kakhidze. For the first time, the globally sought-after Armenian tenor Liparit Avetisyan will perform on the stage of the Latvian National Opera.
