In September and October the Latvian National Opera and Ballet has four premieres scheduled

The Latvian National Opera and Ballet announces the repertoire of the first two months of the  2021/2022 season. Tickets to performances in September and October have been available since 2 July.

The new season’s opening is scheduled for 10 September with a premiere of the ballet Dracula by choreographer Krzystof Pastor and composer Wojciech Kilar. The splendid, neoclassical ballet is based on the world famous novel by Bram Stoker.

On 26 September, Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Simon Boccanegra will premiere. The staging is as originally conceived by director Stephen Lawless; costumes are by Leslie Travers. Normunds Vaicis is the musical director.

On 30 September, the New Auditorium will be the venue for the premiere of the single-act ballet Two Metres. This artistic collaboration among by choreographers Elza Leimane, Antons Freimans, and Aivars Leimanis is both a serious an humorous reaction to the emotional experiences of ballet people during the pandemic.

On 30 October, the curtain will open on the premiere of Gioachino Rossini’s opera La Cenerentola, choreographed and directed by the creative duet Barbe & Doucet, which is also responsible for the costume and set design. The musical director is Péter Halász. La Cenerentola has never before been staged in Latvia.

Dracula, Simon Boccanegra, and La Cenerantola have been included in the programme of the Riga Opera Festival 2021. The Festival is supported by the State Cultural Capital Foundation and the Riga City Council.

The September and October repertoire will also include productions from previous seasons, as well as two chamber music concerts.
